Request Summary: Follow up to FOI 8417
Request Category: Private Individuals
Question Number 1: Many thanks for your response to my FOI ref. 8417. I would like some more information regarding the cases where oral mucosa changes could be directly attributed to the use of nicotine pouches within the head and neck cancer service. 1) How many cases were reported? Please could you disaggregate this by: • Year • Age of patient (if not possible to provide specific age please just include under18 or over18) • Severity of the case - please could you provide details of the oral mucosa changes
Answer To Question 1: Unable to answer this question because there is not a specific code for nicotine pouch related oral mucosa changes so unable to search for and identify individual cases. However, the Clinical Lead for Head and Neck does recall seeing some cases related to nicotine pouch use.
Question Number 2: Would a clinician who has worked on one of these cases be happy to share their contact details to provide further information?
Answer To Question 2: Ian Downie Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Clinical Lead Head and Neck ian.downie3@nhs.net
